Static PNG, JPEG or WebP · 20 MiB and 40 MP input. Working image is fitted to 2,400 px per side and 4 MP; download uses those working dimensions.

Blur: radius. Pixelate: square block size. Values refer to working pixels.

Every application starts from the original working image, so effects do not accumulate. For several areas, download the result and reopen it. Blur samples nearby original pixels; pixel blocks are averaged within the selected rectangle.

YOUR PROCESSED IMAGE

Ready. Choose an image.

Blur and pixelation are visual effects, not guaranteed secure redaction. Inspect the downloaded image before sharing sensitive details. PNG and WebP preserve processed transparency; JPEG fills it with your background color. Original EXIF and GPS metadata are not copied.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Image Blur / Pixelation

  1. Choose a static PNG, JPEG or WebP image. Review the original and working dimensions.
  2. Choose box blur or pixelation and set the radius or block size in working pixels.
  3. Apply to the whole image, or drag a rectangle on the original. Exact coordinate fields provide keyboard access to selection.
  4. Click Apply effect, inspect the preview, then download PNG, JPEG or WebP. Each application starts from the original working image.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Why use this tool?

Your photo is never uploaded to a server. Image decoding, blur and pixelation, and downloads run locally using Canvas and a disposable browser worker. No accounts, remote APIs or persistent input storage are required. Clear releases the source and result.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

Does this securely redact sensitive information?

No. Blur and pixelation are visual effects and are not guaranteed secure redaction. Sensitive details can remain recognizable or be inferred. Inspect your downloaded result before sharing; use an opaque redaction workflow when irreversible concealment is required.

What are the input and output limits?

Choose one static PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 20 MiB, 40 megapixels and 16,384 pixels per side. It is downscaled when needed to a working image within 2,400 pixels per side and 4 MP. Downloads use those working dimensions and are limited to 32 MiB.

How do the effects handle selections and transparency?

Only pixels in the selected rectangle are replaced before encoding. Box blur averages a square neighborhood using nearby original pixels, including outside the selection, with clamped image edges. Pixelation averages blocks inside the selected rectangle. Both use alpha-aware color averaging. JPEG flattens transparency and lossy formats can alter pixels beyond the selection during encoding.

Can I blur several areas or keep editing?

This tool applies one rectangle at a time. Every application starts from the original working image. Download and reopen your result to process more areas, or use Photo Editor for a broader editing workspace. Original EXIF and GPS metadata are not copied; browser color and orientation handling applies.
