YOUR CLEANED IMAGE

Your cleaned image appears here.

Ready. Choose an image to begin.

A new raster file is created without original EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, ICC profiles, comments or thumbnails. Technical image data remains. Browser orientation is baked into the pixels. PNG preserves decoded pixels; JPEG/WebP re-encode with quality loss. Colors may change, and files can become larger. The original file is unchanged.

Visible faces, text, landmarks and other identifying image content remain. Removing embedded tags does not make a picture anonymous.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Image Metadata Remover

  1. Choose or drop a static PNG, JPEG or WebP image within the size limits.
  2. Choose PNG for lossless encoding of decoded pixels, or JPEG/WebP with a quality setting.
  3. Select Remove metadata. The browser creates a new raster image and checks its container structure.
  4. Review the cleaned preview and download the new file. Clear releases the image and result.

Why use this tool?

Your image is never uploaded to any server; all analysis and image processing are completed locally in your browser. A fresh raster export discards original personal tags, then a local worker removes nonessential container blocks. No account, remote service or image history is required.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

Which metadata is removed?

The original image is decoded into pixels and re-encoded. The generated container is then restricted to essential PNG, JPEG or WebP rendering structures. Original EXIF/GPS, XMP, IPTC, camera tags, embedded thumbnails, ICC profiles and comments are not retained. Dimensions, codec tables, transparency and other technical rendering data remain. This is not a claim that the file contains no information.

Does this preserve the original quality?

The original encoded bytes are not preserved. PNG losslessly encodes the browser-decoded raster, but decoding, orientation and color management can change values compared with the source. JPEG and WebP export are lossy. Removing color profiles can change appearance in other viewers. Output may be larger. Converting a JPEG to PNG does not restore lost detail.

What happens to orientation and transparency?

The browser applies image orientation before export, so removing the orientation tag keeps the decoded visual orientation. PNG and WebP can preserve alpha. JPEG replaces transparent pixels with your selected background color.

Which files are supported?

Static PNG, JPEG and WebP inputs up to 20 MiB, 16 megapixels and 8,192 pixels per side. Detected animations and other formats are rejected. Export is limited to 64 MiB. Browser memory and codec support can impose lower limits. Use Image Resizer first for oversized images.

Does removing metadata make my image anonymous?

No. Visible text, faces, landmarks, watermarks and identifying image content remain. The downloaded file also receives ordinary filesystem information such as its download time. Review the image itself before sharing; this tool does not redact its contents.

Can I stop processing?

Stop, changing settings, choosing another file or Clear discards pending results. The metadata worker is terminated when cancelled and has a 20-second deadline; native encoding has a 15-second response limit. Browser codecs may finish internally after cancellation, but stale results are ignored. The original file is never changed.
