Applied equally on every side. Small icons work best with a simple, high-contrast design.

A square source of at least 512 × 512 pixels is recommended for the full icon pack.

The ICO includes 16, 32, 48 and 256 px frames. The ZIP also includes seven PNG sizes, a web manifest and HTML installation snippets. Use a solid background for platforms that do not support transparent home-screen icons.

LIVE ICON PREVIEWS

Choose an image to preview your favicon at actual small sizes.

Copy files to your website root. For a subfolder, update paths in this HTML and in site.webmanifest. Edit the manifest site name.

Ready. Choose a logo to begin.

Export creates new raster images and removes original metadata. Enlarging a small source can look soft. Manifest icons use purpose “any”; they are not maskable icons, and this pack alone does not make a site installable.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Favicon Generator

  1. Choose or drop one static PNG, JPEG or WebP logo. A square image of at least 512 × 512 pixels works well for the full pack.
  2. Choose contain or centered square crop, padding and a transparent or solid background. Check the actual-size small previews.
  3. Select Generate favicon pack. Download the multi-size ICO, one PNG size or the complete ZIP.
  4. Copy the generated files to your website root, add the HTML links to your head, and edit the manifest site names and paths.

Why use this tool?

Your logo is never uploaded to any server; all resizing, ICO encoding and ZIP generation happen locally in your browser. No account or saved logo history is needed. Every icon is drawn with the same fit, padding and background settings, and the multi-size ICO uses small bitmap frames plus a 256-pixel PNG frame.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

What files are included?

favicon.ico contains 16, 32, 48 and 256 px frames. The ZIP includes PNGs at 16, 32, 48, 180, 192, 256 and 512 px, with Apple touch and manifest-friendly filenames, plus site.webmanifest, favicon-links.html and README.txt. That is 11 files. PNGs and the ICO can also be downloaded separately.

What image formats and sizes can I use?

Static PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 20 MiB, 40 megapixels and 16,384 pixels per side. SVG, GIF, AVIF, HEIC, ICO input and detected animated PNG/WebP are not supported in this version. Browser decoding must succeed. Use a simple high-contrast source; upscaling a small logo cannot restore missing detail.

How do crop and padding work?

Contain keeps the entire source image and centers it in a square. Cover crops the center to a square before fitting it. Padding ranges from 0 to 30 percent of the icon edge on each side. Images keep their proportions. The background can be transparent or a chosen solid color.

Does the ICO include transparency?

Yes. The 16, 32 and 48 px frames use 32-bit bitmap pixels with alpha and transparency masks; the 256 px frame uses PNG. Platform behavior varies, particularly for home-screen icons. Choose a solid background where transparent icons are not supported. The tool does not create older palette-based icon variants.

How do I install the generated icons?

Copy the image files and site.webmanifest to your site root, then add favicon-links.html inside your HTML head. Edit the manifest site names. For subfolder hosting, update paths in the HTML and manifest. Browsers may cache old favicons; test with a fresh browser session after deployment.

Are these maskable icons or a complete PWA setup?

No. Manifest entries use purpose any. The tool does not verify maskable safe areas, configure a service worker or make your site installable. It provides icon assets and a starter manifest for you to adapt.

Are metadata and pending downloads preserved?

Generated files are new raster images, so original metadata and encoded bytes are not preserved. Settings changes, new images, Stop and Clear invalidate old downloads and discard late results. PNG encoding has a five-second response limit per size; the icon pack has an 8 MiB limit. Clear and leaving the page release application-held images and previews.
