Vector PDF to DXF

Extract supported painted vector paths from a selected PDF page into DXF. Choose strokes or fill boundaries, set curve sampling and scale, then compare the source page with the actual DXF and omission report.

One unencrypted PDF up to 50 MiB / 2,000 pages. Source previews are capped at 2048 px per side / 4 megapixels; vector extraction is independent of preview resolution. Page annotations/forms are excluded.

Thumbnail strip shows up to six pages around the selection. Page previews are rendered locally. Links, attachments and scripts are not opened.

Vector settings

Fixed parameter sampling, not a geometric error tolerance. Straight paths stay straight.

Stroke width, dash patterns, fills, colors, opacity and visual occlusion are not reproduced. Stroked lines export as center paths; filled shapes export as boundaries. Text and images are omitted.

DXF size

PDF page points use 72 per inch. Default 25.4/72 gives the nominal printed page size in millimetres. This does not recover the original CAD drawing scale. Explicit scale is independent of rendering/curve settings.

The label sets the unit header; it does not change the numeric scale. Origin is the displayed page's lower-left corner; CAD Y points up.

Converted DXF preview

The converted DXF outlines will appear here.

No DXF generated.

The preview reparses the actual DXF. Compare it with the selected page and read the omission report. Curves become polylines. Images and text do not become CAD paths. Need raster tracing? Use Scanned PDF to DXF.

Conversion report

Supported: PDF.js drawing paths with lines, closes and sampled cubic/quadratic curves; graphics transforms/save/restore and contained Form XObjects. Text/glyphs, images, shadings, patterns, transparency groups, arbitrary clipping, masks and optional-content paths are skipped or reported. Paths crossing page/form bounds or having outside curve controls are conservatively skipped. No stroke expansion, boolean fill/occlusion reconstruction, original CAD layers, dimensions or fabrication compensation. Output is AC1015 ASCII DXF LWPOLYLINE on layer 0. Keep the PDF and verify geometry/scale in CAD/CAM.

    A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Vector PDF to DXF

    1. Choose one unencrypted PDF or load the example. Select a page using thumbnails, its number or previous/next buttons.
    2. Choose stroked center paths, filled boundaries or both. Set curve sampling and explicit DXF units per displayed PDF page point.
    3. Compare the selected PDF page with the generated-DXF preview and omission report. Download the DXF and report, then verify geometry and scale in CAD/CAM.

    Why use this tool?

Your PDF is never uploaded to any server; parsing, vector extraction, DXF generation and previews happen locally in your browser. The output preview reparses the actual serialized DXF, and omission reports identify detected unsupported content.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

    A few things worth knowing

How is this different from Scanned PDF to DXF?

This extracts supported PDF vector drawing paths without thresholding or tracing pixels. Images and text are skipped. Use Scanned PDF to DXF when a page contains a scan or when you want to trace its rendered appearance.

    Is every visible path preserved?

No. Arbitrary clipping, masks, transparency groups, optional-content paths, patterns, shadings and raw optimized fills are unsupported or skipped. Paths crossing page/form bounds or having outside curve controls are conservatively omitted. Review the report and source comparison.

Does it reproduce fills and thick lines?

Strokes become their center paths; filled shapes become boundaries, including implicit closure. Colors, line widths, dashes, opacity and fill-rule/visual occlusion reconstruction are not preserved. A white shape covering another shape does not erase underlying exported geometry.

Does the PDF provide the original CAD scale?

No. The default 25.4/72 scale gives nominal printed-page millimetres per displayed PDF point, not the original engineering drawing scale. Page box and rotation are applied; the displayed lower-left is the DXF origin. The unit label does not change scale.

    What are the limits?

One unencrypted PDF up to 50 MiB and 2,000 pages, displayed page sides up to 16,384 points, 100,000 operations, one million drawing-command values, 100,000 sampled vertices and 5,000 subpaths. Curves use fixed parameter sampling. Unsupported or overly complex pages fail explicitly.
