Up to 20,000 text units. The whole input becomes one slug.
YOUR SLUG
Useful when a system needs percent-encoded URL text. This is one path segment, not a complete URL.

Ready. Type or paste a title to begin.

ASCII mode folds common Latin accents and letters. Other scripts are removed, not translated. Unicode mode preserves international letters.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Text to Slug

  1. Type or paste a title, heading or short phrase. The entire input becomes one slug.
  2. Choose Unicode to keep international letters, or ASCII for Latin letters and digits. Select hyphens or underscores and choose whether to lowercase the output.
  3. Review the slug and its percent-encoded form. Punctuation becomes a separator, repeated separators collapse, and apostrophes are removed.
  4. Copy the slug or encoded form, or download the slug as TXT. Your original text remains unchanged.

Why use this tool?

Slug creation happens entirely in your browser, without uploads, an account, dependencies or browser storage. You can preview both readable and encoded forms before using the result in your own website.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

What is a slug?

A slug is the readable text used for a URL path segment, such as my-first-post. This tool generates a single segment; it does not create a domain, validate a complete URL, check uniqueness or publish a page.

How do Unicode and ASCII modes differ?

Unicode mode retains international letters, digits and associated combining marks. ASCII mode folds common Latin accents and maps a small set of letters such as ß to ss and œ to oe, then retains only A–Z, a–z and 0–9. Other scripts are removed rather than transliterated; use Unicode mode to keep them.

How are punctuation, apostrophes and spaces handled?

Straight and curly apostrophes are removed, so John’s becomes johns. Other disallowed runs, including spaces, punctuation and emoji, separate words. Repeated separators collapse and leading/trailing separators are removed. Newlines are treated as word separators; the tool does not create a batch of slugs.

What normalization is applied?

Unicode compatibility normalization (NFKC) is applied first, which can simplify full-width or compatibility characters. ASCII mode also decomposes accents and removes combining marks. Lowercase uses default Unicode mappings rather than locale-specific casing. This is a deterministic text transformation, not a translation service.

Why show a URL-encoded form?

International characters may be represented with percent-encoded UTF-8 bytes in URLs. Both fields refer to the same slug; decoding the encoded form recovers the readable form. Many website editors handle encoding themselves, so use the form your destination expects and avoid double encoding.

Are there length or SEO guarantees?

No. The input limit is 20,000 UTF-16 text units; oversized input is preserved while conversion is unavailable. The tool does not truncate the slug, reserve a name, guarantee compatibility with every CMS or promise search rankings. Choose a concise, descriptive slug and check your website’s requirements.
