How to use PDF to Text
Choose a PDF up to 50 MiB. Enter its password first if needed.
Choose up to 100 pages using ranges or thumbnail checkboxes. Review source pages in the document preview.
Choose detected line breaks or flowing text and optional page-number headings, then click Extract text.
Review the extracted reading order and copy or download the TXT file. Scanned images need OCR, which is not included.

Why use this tool?
Your PDF, password and extracted text are never uploaded to a server. Self-hosted PDF.js reads embedded text locally. No account, cloud processing or saved document history is required. Clear releases the document and text.
Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.
A few things worth knowing
Can this tool read scanned PDFs?
No. It extracts an existing PDF text layer. Image-only scans and lettering converted to outlines may yield no text. OCR is not included; pages without extracted text are identified in the result summary.
Will formatting and reading order be preserved?
The TXT output does not preserve fonts, colors, tables or page layout. Line breaks are estimated from PDF text positions and explicit line endings. Flow mode collapses whitespace. Multi-column layouts, rotated text, unusual fonts and ligatures may need correction.
What are the limits?
One PDF up to 50 MiB and 2,000 pages, with up to 100 pages per extraction and 5 million output characters. Individual document/page operations have time limits. If a selected page fails or you stop, no partial download is kept.
Can I extract password-protected PDFs?
Enter the password before selecting the file. Only PDFs that PDF.js can open with the supplied password are supported. Passwords remain in page memory and are cleared with the document.
