A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Barcode Scanner

  1. Choose a PNG, JPG, WebP or BMP image, or drop it into the workspace. Use an image under 20 MB and 24 megapixels.
  2. Alternatively, choose a camera preference and press Start camera. Camera access is optional, requires your permission, and uses no audio.
  3. Keep one complete Code 128 or EAN-13 barcode in view, including the white space at both ends. The camera stops automatically when a code is found.
  4. Review the detected format and decoded content. Copy the text, download it as TXT, or clear everything when finished.

Why use this tool?

Your image and camera frames are decoded locally using a self-hosted barcode reader. The tool performs no uploads, product searches or automatic navigation. Content is shown as plain text and kept out of browser storage.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

Which barcode formats are supported?

This version reads Code 128 and EAN-13, matching our Barcode Generator. Other one-dimensional formats, QR codes, Data Matrix and PDF417 are outside its current scope. Use QR Code Scanner for QR codes.

Will it work with rotated barcodes?

The reader tries the original image and a 90-degree rotation, plus inverted contrast. Keep the code level or upright when possible. Sharp focus, good lighting, and intact white space at both ends matter more than image size.

Why was no barcode found?

Crop closer to one code without cutting off its ends. Avoid glare, motion blur, curved labels and steep angles. Tiny or damaged bars may not decode. SVG and PDF inputs are not supported; export a PNG or take a clear screenshot instead.

Does scanning identify a product or open a website?

No. The scanner returns the encoded text and format only. It does not query a product database, verify product ownership, or open a decoded URL. EAN-13 content is treated as a string so leading zeros remain visible.

What happens to camera access?

The camera starts only after you press Start and grant permission. It stops after a successful scan, when you press Stop, choose an image, clear the tool, switch away from the tab, or leave the page. It needs HTTPS or localhost and may be unavailable in some embedded browsers.

Is scan accuracy guaranteed?

No. Readability depends on image quality, label damage, barcode format and your device. Check the decoded value against the printed identifier, especially before using it in an inventory or checkout workflow.
