A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Barcode Generator

  1. Choose Code 128 for printable ASCII text, or EAN-13 for a numeric identifier.
  2. Enter your content. Code 128 preserves spaces. For EAN-13, enter 12 digits to calculate the final check digit or 13 digits to validate it.
  3. Choose a narrow bar width, bar height and optional readable caption. Generate the barcode and review the preview.
  4. Download PNG for raster use or SVG for vector artwork. Preserve the white quiet zone, avoid distortion, and test the final image with your intended scanner.

Why use this tool?

All encoding, validation and image creation happen in your browser. Your barcode content is not uploaded or stored. The PNG and SVG exports use the same bar geometry, with a white quiet zone around the code.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

Which format should I choose?

Code 128 is useful for internal labels and inventory text using printable ASCII characters. EAN-13 encodes a 13-digit numeric identifier commonly used for retail products. This generator creates an image; it does not allocate product numbers or certify a barcode for retail use.

How does EAN-13 check-digit validation work?

Enter 12 digits and the tool calculates the thirteenth digit. Enter 13 digits and it checks whether the last digit matches the first twelve. Leading zeros are preserved. Outer whitespace is trimmed, while embedded spaces and separators are rejected.

Can I encode Unicode or multiple lines?

Code 128 in this tool supports 1–80 printable ASCII characters, including spaces and punctuation. Use QR Code Generator for other languages, emoji, multiline text, WiFi or contact details. GS1-128 application identifiers are not supported here.

Why does the preview scroll sideways?

Longer values and wider bars produce wide images. The preview keeps the original dimensions to avoid blurring narrow bars. Scroll inside the preview or download the full-resolution file.

Will every barcode scanner read my image?

Support depends on the scanner and its enabled formats. Use black bars on white, preserve the quiet zone, and avoid stretching, downsampling or very small print sizes. Test using your intended scanner and final print settings. The existing QR Code Scanner reads QR codes only.

Does hiding the readable caption change the encoded content?

No. The caption is only a visual aid. The bar pattern and check digit remain unchanged when the caption is hidden.
