Your microphone waveform appears while recording.

Pause omits captured frames while keeping the microphone open. Stop saves the take and releases the microphone. Clear discards it. No microphone monitoring is sent to your speakers.
Recording setup
Mono averages available left/right. Stereo duplicates a mono microphone; it cannot create stereo detail.
Quick slider uses whole seconds; fine exact limits remain usable. Capture stops automatically at the nearest 48 kHz sample. The memory budget allows about 23 minutes mono or 11½ minutes stereo; device limits may be lower.

No microphone is open.
A new take replaces the previous recording only after microphone setup succeeds. Downloads stay on your device. Recording needs HTTPS or localhost and browser permission. Microphone access begins only when you choose Start recording.
ACTUAL RECORDED WAV
Listen before downloading
Stop a recording or try the demo to hear the actual WAV.
48 kHz · 16-bit PCM WAV. Paused time is excluded. No MP3/AAC encoding, tags or automatic fades. Recording is held in memory up to a 256 MiB float-sample budget with a bounded block count. Encoding runs in a local worker; actual WAV playback must be ready before download enables. Page exit stops capture and releases the take; download before leaving if you want to keep it.
A FEW SIMPLE STEPS
How to use Audio Recorder
Choose mono/stereo output, a recording limit and optional requested device processing.
Press Start recording and allow microphone access. Check the active indicator, waveform and input meter.
Pause/resume as needed. Stop saves captured audio and releases the microphone; Clear discards the take.
Play the actual WAV, seek on its waveform or use jump controls, then download before leaving the page.

Why use this tool?
Your audio is never uploaded to a server. Capture, decoding, analysis and file generation happen locally in your browser using self-hosted code, without an account or audio history.
Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.
A few things worth knowing
When is the microphone used?
Only after you press Start recording and grant browser permission. Pausing keeps it open but excludes paused samples. Stop, Clear and page exit release it. Late results after a cancelled permission request are stopped.
How long can I record?
The float-sample budget is 256 MiB, allowing a chosen limit up to 1,398 seconds mono or 699 seconds stereo at 48 kHz. A bounded capture-block budget also applies. Device memory and browser interruptions can impose lower practical limits; paused time is not included.
Is stereo or unprocessed audio guaranteed?
No. Output layout and the device input are separate. Mono averages available L/R; stereo duplicates a mono input if necessary. Browser processing toggles are requested preferences, with delivered settings shown when available. No raw-hardware fidelity or calibrated meter claim is made.
What format is saved?
48 kHz, 16-bit PCM WAV. Out-of-range sample clipping is counted. There is no MP3/AAC encoder, automatic fade or metadata preservation. Download becomes available after the actual WAV preview loads.
