Display rounding only. Exact values remain available where the definitions are exact.

For font-size, em and % use the parent font size. For other lengths, em uses the element font size and % needs the property’s reference length. rem uses the root font size. Swap keeps the entered number.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Typography Unit Converter

  1. Enter a numeric CSS length and choose its source and target units. Use a dot and optional scientific notation without a unit name.
  2. Choose font-size on a non-root element, or another CSS length. Relative-unit references depend on this context.
  3. Set each visible reference using its slider or numeric input. The starting 16px is an editable example, not a detected value. For other properties, supply the length against which the percentage resolves.
  4. Choose significant digits, review the exact factor and references, then copy or download the result. Swap exchanges units while keeping your input number.

Why use this tool?

All calculations run locally in your browser, and your values are never uploaded or saved. Exact fraction arithmetic follows CSS unit ratios before display rounding. Explicit reference sizes avoid silently treating every em, rem or percentage as the same length.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

How do I convert pixels to rem or em?

Divide CSS pixels by the relevant font size in CSS pixels. For example, 24px is 1.5rem with a 16px root font size, or 1.2em with a 20px em reference. em uses the parent font size for font-size and the element font size for other lengths.

What is the difference between em and rem?

em depends on context: parent font size for font-size, or the element’s font size for other lengths. rem uses the root font size. This tool handles non-root elements; root font-size declarations and media-query reference rules are outside its scope.

How are percentages converted?

For font-size, percentages use the parent font size, just like em: 150% equals 1.5em. For other CSS lengths, percentage bases vary by property. Supply the resolved reference length yourself; it is not always a font size or always the container height.

Are 96px, 72pt and 1 inch equivalent?

Yes, in CSS unit ratios: 96px = 72pt = 6pc = 1in = 2.54cm. A CSS pixel is a reference unit, not necessarily one physical display pixel. This tool does not infer monitor DPI, device pixel ratio, zoom or physical print size.

Why are some reference controls hidden?

Only references required by the chosen source and target units are shown. Fixed CSS-unit conversions do not need font references. Missing or invalid references block the result only when that reference is actually used.

What values and units are supported?

Ten units: px, pt, pc, in, cm, mm, Q, em, rem and %. Inputs allow up to 120 digits, 180 characters and exponents −500 to 500. Used references must be 0.1–10000 CSS px. Font sizes cannot be negative; signed offsets are supported under other CSS length. Font-metric units, viewport units and calc() are not evaluated.

Are inputs uploaded or stored?

No. The conversion is entirely local. Your inputs are not persisted and only your theme preference is saved. Copy and TXT report download happen when you choose.
