Nine equal-tempered patterns, including major/minor, pentatonic, blues, Dorian, Mixolydian and chromatic. Root and direction determine the displayed and played pitches. A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Scale Explorer

  1. Choose the visible settings. Start at a low device volume for playback; the tuner requires explicit microphone permission.
  2. Use the controls next to the instrument, beat or live tuning preview.
  3. Nine equal-tempered patterns, including major/minor, pentatonic, blues, Dorian, Mixolydian and chromatic. Root and direction determine the displayed and played pitches. Sharp/flat pitch-class labels are practical keyboard names, not complete theoretical enharmonic spelling. No sheet music or fingering certification.
  4. Stop or Reset when finished. Reports are optional; hiding, switching or leaving releases local audio and microphone access.

Why use this tool?

Instruments and practice run locally using self-hosted code and synthesized sound. Only the tuner requests microphone audio, after Start; its samples are analysed locally without recording, monitoring or upload.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

How does this tool work?

Nine equal-tempered patterns, including major/minor, pentatonic, blues, Dorian, Mixolydian and chromatic. Root and direction determine the displayed and played pitches. Sharp/flat pitch-class labels are practical keyboard names, not complete theoretical enharmonic spelling. No sheet music or fingering certification.

Does it upload audio or store practice history?

No. Generated sounds, local observations and practice results remain in the active browser page. Only the tuner requests microphone permission, and no microphone samples are recorded or uploaded.

What happens on Stop, hidden tab or switching?

Playback, scheduled notes, microphone tracks and analysis are stopped. Reset and workspace switching release working state. A downloaded JSON report remains under your control outside the application.
