This is a reference, not a website checker. It does not contact a URL. Vendor-specific and unassigned codes are omitted; inclusion does not mean a code is recommended or an Internet Standard.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use HTTP Status Reference

  1. Search by code, name, summary, alias or RFC number. Multiple search words must all match.
  2. Narrow results by response class or registry label. Reset filters to see the entire reference.
  3. Select a code to inspect its summary, notes and specification link.
  4. Copy the selected details or download the filtered entries as JSON.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Why use this tool?

Search and filtering run entirely in your browser using a bundled registry snapshot. Search terms are never uploaded or stored, and no website is contacted for a status check. Source links let you consult authoritative documentation when you choose.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

Does this check a website’s HTTP response?

No. This is an offline reference after the page has loaded. It never fetches a URL, sends your search terms or stores search history. Selecting an external source link opens the official documentation in another tab.

How current is the reference?

The bundled IANA snapshot was checked on 20 October 2026, with a registry update date of 15 September 2025. It is not refreshed automatically. Code 104 has a temporary registration expiring 13 November 2026 in this snapshot; consult IANA for subsequent changes. All registry entries are included, except unassigned ranges and codes.

Why is 418 labeled unused?

The IANA registry labels 418 (Unused), although the historical nickname I’m a teapot remains searchable. Other historical aliases, including Payload Too Large and Unprocessable Entity, are searchable while current registry names are displayed.

Do these labels mean a code is recommended?

No. Regular entries means entries without one of this tool’s special labels; it does not assert standards-track status or universal support. The tool separately labels temporary, deprecated, unused, obsoleted and future-reserved entries. The linked specifications define the exact requirements.

What happens when a code is missing?

Unassigned and vendor-specific codes are not listed. An empty search result does not prove a response is impossible or invalid. Clear class and label filters if they hide a known code; consult the service’s documentation for vendor codes.

Can I infer caching or retry rules from the class?

No. The short summaries are navigation aids, not complete protocol guidance. Method, headers, application behavior and the relevant specification determine handling. Copy and JSON exports include source and snapshot information so their limits remain visible.
