File Hash Checker

Calculate SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512 from exact file bytes, then compare an expected digest with visible file-selection status.

Private by design. Processed on this device.Local processing · no uploads

No file selected.

Any file type · maximum 100 MiB. Web Crypto hashes a complete in-memory buffer. Your file is read locally, not uploaded.

Paste the digest from a trusted source. Only surrounding whitespace and letter case are ignored.

A hash checks exact bytes against an expected digest; it does not prove that a file or its source is safe. No MD5/SHA-1 security option is offered. File replacement, clear or algorithm changes cancel obsolete local workers.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use File Hash Checker

  1. Enter the labeled inputs and review the tool’s limits and assumptions.
  2. Choose the processing button. File Hash Checker also starts when a valid file is selected.
  3. Review the result and status. Reveal or copy sensitive output only when you choose.
  4. Clear all when finished. Switching standalone tools does not transfer inputs.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Why use this tool?

The selected file is read only by a local worker. Filename, byte size and loading/ready/error state remain visible. File bytes are released after hashing, and comparison never contacts a server.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

How does this tool work?

A hash checks exact bytes against an expected digest; it does not prove that a file or its source is safe. No MD5/SHA-1 security option is offered. File replacement, clear or algorithm changes cancel obsolete local workers.

Are inputs uploaded or saved?

No. Processing uses local browser JavaScript and workers. Inputs are not stored, logged, placed in URLs or sent to external services. Clipboard or downloads occur only when you choose.

What happens when I clear or leave?

Input and result references are released and any active worker is terminated. JavaScript cannot guarantee physical memory erasure or remove screenshots, copied clipboard data or downloads. Clear those separately if needed.

Does this verify safety?

No tool can guarantee security of a device, a password or a file. Strength is a local model estimate; file hashing verifies bytes against a supplied digest. Encryption protects compatible text under its stated format and passphrase assumptions.
